Clinical FAQs

In essence any patient, particularly those who either cannot manage their swelling using their current management program, or wish to manage their treatments with a range of treatment regimes.

Both Lipoedema and Lipo-Lymphoedema patients find using the device particularly useful for ongoing management of their pain, mobility, and oedema. The Lympha Press® Optimal Plus in conjunction with the unique range of garments, particularly the Lympha Pod® which was specifically designed for such patients, offers all patients the opportunity to select a device suitable to their individual needs.

The use of the Lympha Press® increases venous circulation and lymph flow, this assists with decongestion, reduces oedema and pain and helps in the control of the symptoms of Lymphoedema. The Lympha Press® can also reduce the healing time of ulcers, and importantly reduce the reoccurrence after healing.

Using the Lympha Press® to treat fibrosis can help to soften and prevent fibrosis. Please review the treatment protocol information. It should be noted that generally higher pressures are used for this function.

Single leg sleeves are most appropriate for patients with swelling that is predominantly limited to the lower legs and feet.

Bi-Lateral Lympha Pants® are designed to treat, in addition to the lower leg and feet, the abdomen, buttocks and importantly the genitals, therefore more appropriate for those where the entire leg is affected to the proximal areas.

The Bi-Lateral Lympha Pants®, with chambers inflating in the genital area are the most appropriate device to use.

Studies have shown that the use of low level pneumatic compression therapy accelerates wound healing, and can prevent reoccurrence post healing. The wound should be covered with a suitable dressing before treatment, it is also important to adjust pressures to a comfortable level.

Any time of day to suit the patients schedule and oedema.

The entire range of pumps are easy to use, once programmed by the patients clinician, it is as easy as donning the respective garment and ‘Pressing Go’.

It should be noted, all garments have been engineered and designed with easy patient use as a key focus and have zippers and donning straps to aid easy donning & doffing.

Ideally a patient would be educated in the correct and safe use by their clinician within their clinic, however, using a pre-filled in prescription form this is also possible by the trained Lympha Press Distributor product management team.

Education. If patients are advised and shown the importance of ongoing, regular daily use of the device they are more likely to adhere to the required ongoing management program. As they adhere to the protocol and note the benefits suggested, the daily use becomes a regular and important aspect of their ongoing routine.

Patient FAQs

Those with Lymphoedema need to compensate for the poor movement of Lymph Fluid. It is unhealthy to have uncontrolled swelling as the fluid is not just water, containing cellular waste, bacteria, viruses etc. Stagnant oedema swelling that is not decongested can transform over time to lymphostatic fibrosis.

Lympha Press® garments use air inflated cells to apply compression at a precisely managed pressure. This pressure is applied and released in a specific sequence, and to a precise time cycle, to the affected area. This sequence and timing allows the lymphatic capillaries to absorb the lymph fluid, and stimulates these vessels to move the fluid and decongest and area of this ‘stagnant’ fluid. The operation of the Lympha Press is based on clinical Manual Lymphatic Drainage.

There is no ‘one treatment suits all’ answer. There are many options for compression therapy, from bandaging, wraps, off-the shelf circular & flat knitted custom garments including arm sleeves and gloves – all commonly and successfully used for ongoing maintenance. This range of garments can be used in conjunction with Pneumatic Compression Therapy. Any discussion regard the most suitable garment for your specific condition is best had with your Lymphoedema Clinician.

Daily use is important for ongoing oedema management as the pressure applied to the limb helps move the Lymph Fluid when the body moves. This includes knitted compression garments and the Lympha Press®.

Yes. However, the Lympha Press® is best not used against bare skin, wear loose, non-compressive clothing, for example: old PJ’s, sweatpants or long-sleeved loose shirts as liners (they will keep the compression garment clean – and help to absorb any perspiration).

Manual Lymphatic Drainage. Via a special form of lymphatic massage that stimulates the lymph system and directs oedema to groups of Lymph Nodes. MLD can only be carried out by trained Lymphatic Therapists with a detailed knowledge and understanding of the lymphatic drainage pathways.

Following a protocol advised and shown by your therapist is very often suggested before and during the treatment offered by the Lympha Press®, this may also include specific deep-breathing. This should always be discussed with your therapist.

It should be noted that the Lympha Press® is only available to purchase with a clinical referral. It can be purchased directly from your Clinician or from Lympha Press Australia with your clinicians prescription referral.

Only use the device as prescribed by your clinician, or as set by Lympha Press Australia (the device will be pre-programmed and locked to your clinicians prescription before dispatch). Treatment is usually daily, and up to one hour – however always follow your clinicians advice.

As your condition may change over time, the operating program may need to be changed to ensure your ongoing treatment suit these changes. Any changes need to be prescribed by your clinician. If assistance is required to make these suggested changes, the team at Lympha Press Australia will be happy to assist you under your clinicians direction.

For lower limb, lying down is the easiest and favored position, however many users do use in reclining chairs. For upper limb devices, sitting in a chair supporting the limbs is acceptable.

Please see the cleaning protocols.
